On Friday morning, a kerosene explosion occurred in Elekahia, a heavily populated district of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, which led to a fire outbreak and the displacement of over 200 persons as well as the damage of property worth millions of naira.
According to Punchng.com, It was gathered that the fire which started at about 8:30 am was caused by a kerosene explosion.
Some of the affected residents have traveled for the festivities, while others were out for work when the fire started.

In a news conference, John Nnemeka, a representative of the federal fire service, revealed that the buildings’ design made it challenging for his men to get to the scene, which accelerated the spread of the fire.
He said, “We could not access the fire quickly because of the road network. We had to be careful driving in so that we don’t destroy electric cables and high-tension lines otherwise we would have arrived early but the road was too small. But in the end, a resident helped to break through his fence and passed our hoses and we started fighting the fire and we put out the fire.”

A locally fabricated dynamite exploded when one Mrs Ifemia Aloke, popularly known as ‘mama Joy’ opened her fish shop, inflicting injuries on her son and one other young lady who are currently receiving medical attention.
