Video: Prof Ashu Marasinghe Sri Lanka’s Presidential Advisor caught on video allegedly Abusing a pet dog

An horrifying video of Prof Ashu Marasinghe who is Sri Lanka’s Presidential Advisor has gone viral online. The video shows him abusing a pet in the bedroom.
51-year-old Marasinghe served in the legislature from 2017 until 2020 as a United National Party representative on the National List.
On Friday, former MP Hirunika Premachandra addressed the media and unveiled the video recordings, which she claimed were made by the owner of the pet dog, Aadarsha Karandana.
However, Prof Ashu Marasinghe has announced his resignation following the viral video.

After meeting Marasinghe online on Facebook, Ms. Karandana claimed to the media that they had been dating for two years and had shared a residence. She claimed that she had become concerned after observing changes in the dog’s behavior and had secretly videotaped the behaviors without his awareness.
Marasinghe allegedly violently assaulted Ms. Karandana after she challenged him. She continued by saying that during their two-year relationship, Marasinghe had mistreated her physically.
According to Tamilguardian.com, Premachandra maintained that Marasinghe could be found guilty of offenses under Sri Lanka’s Penal Code and could face up to 20 years in prison.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) have urged for an investigation into the matter stating:
At a news conference today, Mrs. Hirunika Premachandra was joined by Mrs. Adarsha Karadana, who is purported to be Professor Ashu Marasinghe’s wife.
There, she disclosed information regarding her relationship with Mr. Ashu Marasinghe, including his abuse of her beloved puppy.
