After meeting Marasinghe online on Facebook, Ms. Karandana told the reporters that she had been his girlfriend for two years and had lived with him. She claimed that after observing a shift in the dog’s behavior, she became suspicious and secretly videotaped the behaviors without the owner’s knowledge.
According to Newsfirst.lk, Ms. Karandana said she had reported Marasinghe’s behavior to the President’s wife and the President’s Secretary, but that no action had been taken so far.
There was no immediate comment from the Presidential Secretariat apart from a terse statement announcing Marasinghe’s resignation. Sri Lanka’s police also did not immediately comment.
Marasinghe may have breached the Penal Code of Sri Lanka, according to Ms. Premachandra, and might spend up to 20 years in jail.
