Wanda Dench and Jamal Hinton are celebrating Thanksgiving together for the seventh time in a row. It is a holiday custom that is shared by two families, but it has always included the entire world.
You are missing out on a holiday story that reads like the script for a movie if you haven’t heard of Dench and Hinton before. In fact, the story is being turned into a movie, as Netflix revealed last year.
It all began in 2016 when Dench and Hinton unintentionally connected via text.
Dench mistakenly texted Hinton, a total stranger, when she intended to text her grandson about Thanksgiving preparations. Even knowing Dench was not his grandmother, he didn’t act awkward and humorously inquired if he could still attend for the occasion. Dench also promised to have a dish ready for him.
Hinton took a screenshot of the typo, which quickly went viral. He traveled to Mesa from Tempe, Arizona that Thanksgiving to join Dench and her family for the holiday.
He was only a teenager at the time, but he is now 22 and has shared their Thanksgiving plans every year since. And the tale gains popularity every year. Hinton and Dench, 65, have even added Hinton’s girlfriend Mikaela to their guest list.
But Hinton broke some bad news in 2020. Lonnie, Dench’s husband, had passed away from COVID-19. They still celebrated the holiday that year, but it was a smaller gathering in memory of Lonnie.
With 142,000 Instagram followers, Hinton currently has a sizable social media following. However, he kept the followers of this custom waiting until Tuesday night, when he finally admitted he and Dench were together for the seventh consecutive year.
“In order to allay your concerns, Thanksgiving year 7 is planned! We’ll see you on Thursday “He shared a picture of himself and Dench in his post.
Dench and Hinton hang out on other days as well, though their annual gathering is what garners the most attention. in fact joined her in September when she got her first tattoo.
She provided the following explanation in a tweet: “Three shooting stars appeared to me. My spouse, who stands for honesty, my mother, who was brave, and my father, who was about unconditional love, each serve as my Guardian Angels in Heaven.”
Hinton claimed that tagging along was a lot of fun.
“Go give Wanda a congrats on getting her first tattoo! We had a great time accompanying her!”
