Rob Demovsky of ESPN claims that on Tuesday, the Green Bay Packers worked out the following players:Danny Davis, receiver Geronimo Allison, tackle Sage Doxtater, tackle Derek Kerstetter, tackle Sam Schlueter, and center Chris Owens are the players in this group. That Geronimo Allison is correct.
Allison spent three seasons with the Packers, receiving 89 passes for 1,045 yards and six touchdowns. He has played for the Detroit Lions and Atlanta Falcons in recent years, but he hasn’t had a reception since leaving Green Bay after the 2019 season.
Davis is also a former Packer who was let go during the team’s summer roster reduction to 80 players. He scored a touchdown in Green Bay’s preseason debut in 2022, but an injury prevented him from playing in Week 2 and he was released.Davis, a former Badger from Wisconsin, started 27 games for the state program.
It is interesting that the Packers brought in multiple receivers who have played under head coach Matt LaFleur before, as Green Bay currently has four receivers on its practice squad:Travis Fulgham, Dede Westbrook, Juwann Winfree, and Jeff CottonWinfree and Fulgham have been on the practice squad all season, and Winfree was promoted three times in 2022. Meanwhile, Cotton and Westbrook were signed last week.
Doxtater played left tackle for the New Orleans Saints this summer after being signed by the team as an undrafted free agent. He was let go as a result of an injury settlement after suffering an injury in the preseason. He most recently spent a week on the practice squad of the Arizona Cardinals.
According to Pro Football Focus, Kerstetter was one of the best pass blockers in college football while playing tackle and center for Texas at the college level. He worked out for the New England Patriots and Houston Texans after signing with the Buffalo Bills as an undrafted free agent.
Schlueter, like Doxtater, was released in August as part of an injury settlement. He practiced for the New York Jets and Atlanta Falcons after spending the preseason with the San Francisco 49ers.LaFleur’s system is compatible with all three of those offensive staffs.Like Kerstetter, Owens, a native of Alabama, has also played both tackle and center. He originally signed as an undrafted free agent with the Pittsburgh Steelers and received a $5,000 signing bonus, which is unusual for an undrafted player. He was picked up by the New York Giants and spent a week with them after being released in the middle of August. He was the third-highest offensive lineman selected in the XFL draft last week.’
On their 53-man roster, Green Bay has 10 offensive linemen, but they don’t have a single offensive lineman on their 16-man practice squad.Since outside linebacker Tipa Galeai is expected to return from the injured reserve soon, the Packers may be able to reduce their offensive line to nine players.Green Bay acquired tackle Luke Tenuta in October, but he has yet to play in a game during the regular season.
The team has not yet announced a signing from this workout set.
